There are many ways to explore Venice, but there’s only one perfect way to spend a day in the beachfront neighborhood. We’ve put together an itinerary for your perfect day in Venice.

Morning

Start your day on the up-and-coming Rose Avenue with a sweet pastry from Gjusta, the ever-popular bakery that’s made an art of folding fresh slices of fruit into sugar-glazed dough. Metro brings an expanded bike share system to Venice this summer, but in the meantime put those carbs to good use and rent a Breeze Bike to pedal along the beachfront path. Toward the southeastern edge of the beach, walk among the arching pedestrian bridges and charming houses along the Venice Canals.

Afternoon

Stroll along the upscale Abbot Kinney Boulevard, an area of Venice that’s equal parts high-end boutiques and beach-bum ambience. Stop by Tortoise General Store for a lovely selection of traditional Japanese crafts, Urbanic Paper Boutique for letterpress cards and striking gift wrap and Huset for Scandinavian-inspired decor. Brave the Venice Boardwalk and make a beeline for the small shaded patio at Poke-Poke, one of the first (and best) places to serve the raw Hawaiian seafood specialty in L.A.

Night

Watch the sunset with a drink in hand at Hotel Erwin’s High Rooftop Lounge, a primo patio overlooking the Pacific. Make your way inland for a down-home dinner at Baby Blues BBQ, where the sweetest servers insist you pile your plate high with ribs, corn bread, and mac and cheese. Unwind with a nightcap down the street at the Lincoln, a cozy, industrial patio bar with whimsical yet refined cocktails.
