Studio RoJa -- Created in 1991

Our recipe for 25 years of playful products:
Mix humor with simplicity, add a softened heart and a bit of irony and top it off with a lot of creative energy.

Studio RoJa’s mission is to create fun and funky pieces that are affordable to all. From the lowly keychain to the lofty necklace, we want to bring a bit of humor and spice to everyday life. We’ve found inspiration in our funny friends, our crazy pets, pop culture, the diversity of the big city and the everyday experiences that make us open our eyes to life. Studio RoJa’s products are the brainchild of former graphic designer and Santa Monica local Jami Miyamoto. She’s been making jewelry since she was in high school and was hooked on crafts when her yarn art was displayed in her elementary school’s student office. She got sidetracked into graphic design and went to college at CalArts graduating with a BFA in Design. She then worked on logos, brochures and more for a diverse range of clients from UCLA Center for the Performing Arts to City National Bank. But her love of 3D art brought her back to craft and fabricating jewelry, tooth fairy boxes, judaica, pet products and basically anything that catches her fancy.

Studio RoJa’s appreciation of typography and graphic images is demonstrated through the surface treatment and ornamentation of their work. Most of the pieces start off in the studio as balls of fimo clay or wax. The pieces started in fimo are sculpted by hand using a freeform approach where everywhere little decoration is rolled out and pinched or pushed or cut by hand where even the fingerprints remain on some pieces. The pieces that start in wax are painstakingly carved out with dental tools, files and heat and each piece becomes a sculpture in miniature. The pieces are then cast in bronze and then recast in pewter or sterling. Some pieces also start off being fabricated in sterling silver and then cast. We only used lead-free pewter and our caster is located in Los Angeles, CA . In some pieces original art is created and placed on the medallion and resin is hand poured in the section over the art.
